Bingo is played world over and many people who do not know the game have never understood the passion that bingo players play with. They also find it difficult to understand the jargon used in bingo. However, there are some common terms used which can be understood by anyone who comes across them.
Bingo board displays all the numbers called out during the game. Usually this board is electronically lit so that it is better visible. Then there are bingo booklets. A booklet has a series of sheets, which are differently colored, and each color is used for one game. The booklet has the sheets arranged in the order in which the game would be played.
Buy-in refers to the admission packet and minimum buy-in is the minimum number of cards which are usually 3 to 6 cards. A minimum buy-in allows the player to enter the game and it is the least amount that a player needs to spend if he wants to amongst the prize contenders. Bingo players use a special pen called a dauber to mark the called numbers. The pen has a foam tip and can mark the number with just a touch.
The caller is a person in bingo who calls out the numbers that are drawn. This person is not allowed to play and it considered to be part of the game. At times, an electronic machine picks out the numbers instead of the caller, this machine is called random number generator.
A player who is constantly falling short of one number from winning a game is called a on-player.
When a bingo session ends, it is called wrap-up.
These common bingo terms should put you at ease the next time you are either playing bingo or are in the midst of bingo players. At least you will know what bingo lingo to use.
